Drifter is a procedurally generated open-world space tradey/shootey game that was both successfully Kickstarted and Greenlit. Now on Steam early access, the game has come quite a way since the early version I played some time back, so I decided to do a video! Watch me as I do missions against pirates and replicants in this preview! Right now the game is quite a bit of fun, so be sure to check it out on Steam, and enjoy!

I backed Drifter in Kickstarter, it’s been interesting to watch it develop, but it still has a ways to go as well. It does scratch the Elite itch a bit.
1) I think the “Retirement” missions are assassinations. I could be wrong, but they refer to “surprise retirement” and “going out with a BOOM”…
2) It’s semi-newtonian; you can turn without thrusting to “drift”, and strafe that way.
It’s a shame the game doesn’t allow for travel across a z-axis. While that aspect is slightly disappointing, I was excited to hear they are developing Drifter for the PS Vita. It could shape up to be a nice blend of Elite with combat that loosely resembles Space Invaders. Dodging attacks across a single plane, timing your shots and strafes to hit the enemy. I’m definitely keeping my eye on this one.
I’m honestly fine with that, keeps it approachable, and will, I think, make it work better on a platform like The Vita.
