Hailing Frequencies Open – 3/27/17 – Real-Time Sleepiness

Pew Pew!

Hey folks, happy Monday, how was your weekend? Mine was all over the place! Friday evening I worked on some videos for this week’s game, Battle of Orion 2. The first video up today is mostly a tutorial, but it shows off some of the game’s basic mechanics. I had a good time with the early portion of it, but by the end of the evening I felt stuck and frustrated. You’ll see why later in the week. I also spent some time recording footage for Lemuria: Lost in Space, which is a first-person survival point and click adventure game. Not my cup of tea, but it was well made and challenging. After that I was wiped, so no more recording, and I just spent time in Dead Effect 2, which is a perfect shooter if you just wanna do a quick level or two without any larger attachment.

Saturday was craahaaaazy. We had some friends over who we hadn’t seen in a while. The guy in the couple had a gift certificate to a game shop I live quite near to, so after we all had brunch, he and I went over and did some shopping. He ended up getting both Witcher 3 and Uncharted 4 for PS4, while I ended up getting Robotech: Battlecry for the PS2, Sega GT for the Dreamcast and Killzone 2 for the PS3, all for about $13. This shop is awesome. ;) When we got back to my place, we did some couch co-op of both Jedi Starfighter and Racer’s Revenge on the PS2, both of which were a freaking ton of fun. I’m really glad I’ve embraced couch co-op. It’s so, so great.

Sunday’s Jumpgate stream was great. I had a lot of fun, even though I apparently chased a ghost due to a bad alert. An alert came up that a thingy needed to be repaired, even though news broke hours earlier outside the game that the thingy HAD been repaired. I’d not seen that though, so I went through the process of finding a repair beam which then I found out wasn’t needed. Those things aren’t cheap either. I had a great, and profitable, time pure mining though.

On Sunday, with the rest of my gaming time, I figured I should finish some of the other shooters I have before getting the new DOOM, since I’ve been in a very shooty mood thanks to Titanfall 2 (of which I also got some multiplayer time with) and Dead Effect 2. I therefore loaded up TimeShift, and was reminded why I didn’t get too far in it. Bullet sponges. Even at the lowest difficulty, it took maybe ten shots to kill a dude. That’s just annoying as HELL. The time effect was nifty, but it didn’t kill my frustration with the rest of the game (also the gunplay felt weak), so I stopped and uninstalled it. I then proceeded through some more of the Homefront: The Revolution single player campaign, which is a blast. Next up, I’ll be trying Singularity, which is apparently amazing.

Also, on the way from ebay, is Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe (Scharmers glowing recommendation on the flight sim podcast made me find an affordable copy) and 2009’s Wolfenstein, which apparently is an AMAZING shooter that I completely missed, neither of which are sadly available digitally. Can’t wait to try them!

In other news, I was emailed about this neat looking rogue-like shooter called Hyperspace Dogfights today. Not sure how spacey it is, but I’m looking forward to trying it. The other big news is that the CIC has the shooting script for Privateer 2. I might read it, given that the story was the best part of that crapfest, which isn’t saying much. God I hate that game.

In sales today, Iron Sky: Invasion is on Steam’s weeklong sale, and it’s totally worth it. You can see how much fun I had with it here. Also on sale is Gunship!, which several folks told me I should play with mods/patches after our recent flight sim podcast, so for $0.97, I suppose I’ll give it a whirl.

That should do it for today folks. Thanks for reading!
