So as I mentioned, Rodina came out on Friday, and I’ve spent a little bit of very enjoyable time with the alpha, so I streamed a bit to Twitch to test my new hardware and to show y’all how fun this thing is. Check it out, and enjoy!

Really looking forward to enjoying this game – fits my philosophy of gameplay over graphics. Found after downloading the demo that I may have some DirectX issues with it, but I haven’t had more than about 5 minutes to poke at it. My Windows box is an old XP machine running DX9, which I strongly suspect is the problem. Maybe over the holiday I’ll have time to diagnose.
Found that the Rodina dev has publicly asserted the min spec is Vista/DX10, which eliminates me and my XP gaming box. Pity. Back at NetDevil, we had the philosophy that you need to cast as wide a net as possible, and that meant developing for DX9 as the lowest common denominator. Even though I’m developing for mobile these days, I still think that’s the wiser approach if you want people to try your game. You just can’t expect a user to have made that upgrade decision, and certainly not for your game alone.
Sorry, but I’m waaay too shallow to allow for something other than gameplay on par with graphics. For now, Rodina doesn’t show anything that even remotely grabs my interest, but I do hope that the additional funds through the Alpha access will allow for further development. I’d really like the game to really shine.
What would it need to grab your interest, out of curiosity?
I’d like to see something like “No Man’s Sky” with Single Player. I mean, procedural generation has huuuge potential, something that Rodina lacks to show IMO. Do have a look at Infinity and tell me that it doesn’t have infinitely more potential: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6a69dMLb_k
Man, *that* is a game that I’d love to get my hands on! ;-)
Combine that with XNA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUSdSjnDB_E) and the lush vegetation of Proland (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ghulpp6CPw&feature=c4-overview&list=UUZtdZFQET8QgwneAwCQ7iog), and you’ll see where I’m headed. ;-)
You said: “like to see something like “No Man’s Sky” with Single Player” LMAFO Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahaahahaha.
I know the comment is over 3 years old but still:
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHA
I’ve not played NMS, but why is that funny?
Is it just me, or does the ship seem way bigger on the inside that it looks on the outside.
I’ve been playing Rodina pretty steadily this week, and I have to say that this game has really grabbed me. Great game. The more you learn about it, the more impressive it gets. Elliptic Games has found a winning combo of space game goodness for me. Great music, great writing, very cool looking environment, and excellent game play. If the basic ship has put you off checking this out: give it a try and it quickly makes sense. Plus modders out there are already producing beautiful-looking alternate ships.
Two thumbs way up on this one.
After 0x10c got cancelled, I have been keeping an eye on Rodina. I bought it and have been playing. Quite fun! I see there’s no place to really discuss it (I prefer forums, specifically) so I made https://rodinaforums.net. I hope you come check it out :-)
Welcome to the comments, Ryan, and I’d be happy to check out your forum. Did you tell Brendan about it too?
