One of the more frustrating things about Steam, honestly, is when they turn down a game you particularly love for one reason or another. Steam is a fantastic way to generate sales and visibility for indie games especially, and seeing certain games denied for whatever reason just burned my bottom.
Well, at the end of August, Steam is apparently going to launch Steam Greenlight. What is this, you ask?
Steam Greenlight is a new system that enlists the community’s help in picking some of the next games to be released on Steam. Developers post information, screenshots, and videos for their game and seek a critical mass of community support in order to get selected for distribution. Steam Greenlight also helps developers get feedback from potential customers and start creating an active community around their game as early in the development process as they like.
This will hopefully allow more of the indie space games we all know and love to get more exposure! So indie space game devs, keep an eye on this thing! If it works as intended, it will hopefully open the door for many more indie space games — and awesome indie games in general — to generate more sales and more visibility thanks to Steam’s massive user base. I know I’ll be participating if I can! Good luck y’all!
Thanks to Telefrog on Quarter to Three for the tip! :)
Yes! Really nice!
Totally!! Can’t wait to see how and if this works.
Brian – again, thanks for looking out for us developers!!
My pleasure, Tyler. Indies have helped keep this genre alive more than most, so I need to return the favor as best I can. :)

Hey man, happy to help in any little way I can. :)
While we’re on indie developer stuff, here’s something interesting, an open source console!

I saw that, kinda tempted but not 100% sure of it. Love the idea though.
