Freespace 2 — still the finest game of its type — turns fifteen today. Think about that for a second. The greatest game in this particular genre is nearing its its mid-teens, and yet still, nothing has come even anywhere near close to surpassing it. That’s one hell of a legacy right there, my friends. Tonight on the podcast we’re going to talk about that legacy, along with memories of the game, how it impacted us when we first played it, and whether it still sticks with us today. I invite you to come on into the chat room tonight to share your own memories, or share them in the comments below, so that we may all share in the joy that is this game, and what it’s given to us. :)
One of my clearest memories of the game is just how…weak and powerless I felt as the game went on. I mean in other games of this type I’m the conquering hero! Not so here, and it’s CRUSHING. AND I LOVE IT.
That feeling when one off your cap ship buys it… “Noooooo !!!!”
Welcome to the comments Gee! And OMG I know, right? Cap ships in Freespace 2 feel so…weighty that the loss of any allied cap ship just punches you right in the gut.
