Starships Unlimited v3 on Sale at Matrix Games

Big Galaxies! Pretty Colors!
Big Galaxies! Pretty Colors!

If y’all haven’t played Starships Unlimited, and you like space-based 4X games, you’re in for a treat. This unique game — which focuses more on ships than planets, really — is Matrix Games’ Deal of the Week this week, meaning you can get this fantastic and highly replayable game for only $9.99, which is a STEAL. When the game came out about a decade ago — yeah, it’s a smidge old, but don’t hold that against it — I played it non-stop for weeks. I’ll try and put a video together this week to show y’all what the gameplay is like — which might be a bit rough since I’ve not played it in aaaaages — but seriously folks, this is great stuff. Check it out!

  1. I grabbed it. I had to set it up in XP compatibility mode or all I got was a black screen. I haven’t really dug into it yet; I wish there was a way to up the resolution on it. For me, the game appears in what looks like a 1024×768 box in the middle of my 1080p screen.

    1. Huh, which OS are you on? I’m on Win7 64bit and I had pretty much the opposite experience. Loaded right up, took up the whole 1080 monitor and looks pretty good to boot.

  2. Win7, I think 64bit. I dunno, maybe I did something wrong. It’s the same machine that doesn’t get along with Independence War 2.
